At the core of our company philosophy is our belief in sustainable nature travel and protecting Hokkaido. We are growing and learning, but ultimately we are aiming for eco-friendly practices to be and remain a huge part of our business. As a tour company, but also as lovers of Hokkaido, and those raising children locally, we feel it’s our responsibility to be a positive impact, and we hope to inspire our guests to be proactive in taking steps to join us in this journey.
We support our local communities in any way we can – collaborating with local land owers, artisans, farmers, activity providers and small businesses wherever and whenever possible. We support local community projects and conservation efforts, aim to reduce waste and reuse wherever possible within our business model and wish to respect our local culture bringing resources directly in to the local community.
Sustainability-wise, we have taken a lot in to consideration and added policies that can help us build this positive impact that we’d like to bring to Hokkaido as a company and we’d love you to join with us as you travel Hokkaido!
It’s important for us to work for guests and with suppliers that have the same sustainability values – both environmental & cultural
1. Promote and practice ecotourism policies as set out by Travelife
2. Participate in and support ecotourism programs, activities and events, and where possible seek to play an active role on such occasions.
3. Commit to regularly assessing ourselves and all supplier’s sustainability rating using the ‘Travel Hokkaido Sustainability Rating’ document and meeting the basic standards.
4. Contribute to the positive and more sustainable development of the tourism industry by implementing and educating guests and others about ecotourism.
5. Educate and practice all staff and visitors on being sustainable ethic:
6. Inform guests of and practice local culture-related behavioral practices.
7. Accurate implementation of Travellife – Sustainability in Tourism certificate. Standards as issued to all members with certification will enhance the accuracy and transparency of your ecotourism products and services.
We’ll help you find spots to refill your own bottle instead of providing single-use plastic bottles
Please refrain from making loud noises or wearing bright clothing near wild or farm animals
We have bins onboard and can help you dispose of waste in the appropriate manner
Use these as souvenirs rather than taking from the environment itself
Keep the fire making to the professionals! Minimize the negative effects of fire on nature
We like to promote and attend locally run events and buy from small local vendors
