There are some bear parks or enclosures in Hokkaido, that we choose not to introduce as part of our tour plans – but Bear Mountain in Sahoro is a centre that we enjoy and respect. Here, you are able to take either the walking or bus tour at Bear Mountain and discover the wild-side of Hokkaido.
It’s a spacious and beautifully maintained sanctuary for rescue bears, and gives up close-and-personal chances to encounter Hokkaido’s native brown bear. You can either take a safari style bus through the park itself, or take the walking course through the treetops and look down on the bears from above. We love the space, natural environment and caring staff here. Closed in winter, but definitely worth a visit if you are in the central Hokkaido area throughout spring – autumn.
