If you have already visited Otaru but are looking for a similar kind of atmosphere, we would love to introduce you to Mashike Town. It’s a picturesque place with a vibe that you will love!

Mashike is a small town near the western coast of Hokkaido which is full of historical buildings. Other than seeing the beautiful ocean and historical views, we are also going to enjoy a seafood lunch and Japanese sake tasting in this tour. Let’s spend one day traveling back to the past and having a wonderful journey in this peaceful town.

It is the also the harvest of a large variety of fruit in summer and you can’t miss the fruit picking!

What to Expect

Departing from Sapporo at 9am, it takes us about 2 hours to downtown Mashike and we will first visit the Former Mashike Station and to look around all the historical buildings nearby.

Then let’s discover how delicious the Mashike’s seafood is! The seafood there is very famous, especially the sweet shrimp and we are going to enjoy a great seafood lunch!

The Hokkaido’s northernmost brewery is found in Mashike. Kunimare Sake Brewery is one of the historical buildings in town and full of culture. It was built in 1900s and has been so well maintained so that we can experience the original atmosphere. We can enjoy sake tasting inside and have fun by dressing as a Japanese style bartender.

Near the Kunimare Brewery, the Former Merchant Maruichi Honma Residence is also on our must-see list. It is older than the brewery which was built in 1870s. It was the house of the former of Kunimare Brewery and it shows us the real life of people in Meiji Period.

We’ll then enjoy the highlight of our summer tour, FRUIT PICKING! During different periods of summer, we can enjoy strawberries, cherries, blueberries, peaches, pears or apples! Let’s enjoy a all-you-can-eat fruit buffet in Mashike!

Last but not least, on the way back to Sapporo, we will see the sunset with the panoramic view of the ocean from Ishikari Ai Road Atsuta Roadside Station. So many magical summer memories to take back from this Hokkaido adventure!
