Sounkyo Onsen Ice Waterfall Festival

The Ice Waterfall Festival in Sounkyo Onsen, Kamikawa Town is one of the most famous winter festivals in Hokkaido. We will spend 3 hours inside, seeing the ice sculptures and ice waterfall, grabbing a limited Asahikawa local warm sake* and soaking up the winter atmosphere. The glamourous illuminations show you a totally different image from the daytime which is romantic and unforgettable!

*The Northern Ice Bar only opens on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Inside this huge venue, you can eat, see and play!

Surely you may want proof that you are a brave person under this severe coldness? You can receive an “Extreme Cold Certification” with your photo on it. You can also enjoy different shows holding the stage, such as Taiko drum performances and traditional Ainu dances. And don’t forget to take photos of the illumination before leaving.

On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, there will be a Northern Ice Bar, providing warm sake that you can only enjoy there. Hot rice cocoa is also available for non-drinkers and is also limited edition!

Here’s a gentle reminder: it is really cold outdoor and the average temperature is usually -10°c. Please prepare yourselves enough warm clothing!
